Empty spaces is a work that I shot during the first UK lockdown in March 2020. Like many photographers I wanted to create a piece of work that would record my experience of the early part of the pandemic. What struck me, beyond the sense of fearful not knowing, was just how quiet and empty the streets in my local city had become. I would walk the dog at night, mostly to avoid being near to other people, and during this time, I rarely saw anyone. In the early days, there was a few police cars and taxis' driving around the town. However, as the weeks progressed, they too disappeared leaving behind what seemed to be a ghost town.
